Legal
It’s easy to give up on privacy today.
We have smart speakers listening in our kitchen and apps track our location “only while using.” We know every call “may be recorded” and just walking into a store means you’re offering permission to be filmed there.
Yup, I usually click the “Accept All Cookies” button too, without reading any of the legalese about what I’m giving up. Clearly this page isn’t standing between you and a surveilled life. But if it all feels out of our control, it’s not hopeless.
We all decide how to use the data we collect. And my promise to you is that I won’t use yours in evil or exploitative ways. If you subscribe to my list, your details won’t be sold to a mailing list for reduced rate mortgages or the latest deals on new GLP-1 injections.
What this site actually collects: your email address, if you subscribe to my newsletter. The site also measures basic site analytics, so I know which articles people finish and what content is most popular. That’s it. We don’t run ads on this site, so there’s no tracking-pixel building data on you.
I will never sell your data, accept paid advertising or make it impossible for you to unsubscribe.
This page exists because of legal regulations. But these principles exist because I believe that privacy matters.
- The Non-Obvious Company
PS - Here’s the more legalese part required by the European Union’s GDPR rules: controller is The Non-Obvious Company (info@nonobviouscompany.com). We collect your email (if you subscribe) and basic analytics, based on consent. Shared only with Kit (newsletter) and Basin (contact form), both US-based, under standard contractual clauses. Kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Email us anytime to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or export your data, or withdraw consent. If you ever feel we’ve mishandled any of this, you have the right to complain to your country’s data protection authority, no permission from us required. None of it is mandatory - you can read the whole site without giving us a thing - but if you skip the email field, we obviously can’t email you, and either way, we don’t run any algorithms, profiling, or automated decision-making on your data, because we are not a surveillance company.
