Highlights From The Future Of Storytelling
For the past five years there is only one event I have attended without fail. The Future of Storytelling (FoST) is a curated day filled with performers, roundtable discussions, and product demos. The result is a multi-sensory mashup of recency that always delivers new ideas.
This year the day started with a projection artist playing guitar and a tap dancer performing in VR, and ended with Japanese digital dance troupe Enra and a marimba-playing robot. In between, I had the chance to facilitate two sessions with Spotify CMO Seth Farbman about the role of data in creativity. The most interesting insight of the day was Seth's point that story mining was itself a form of data.
The entire event reinforced this message, that it is our job as marketers to bring out the stories in our world and tell them with passion.

A Short Backstory Of This Blog
This is a blog about non-obvious ideas. Originally launched on the Typepad platform in 2005 as the Influential Marketing blog, the stories at first focused mainly on digital marketing while Rohit worked at Ogilvy Advertising. In 2015 Rohit officially rebranded to the Non-Obvious Insights Blog and published his WSJ bestseller Non-Obvious. For the past twenty one years, this blog has coined new terms, introduced future marketing practices and inspired the next generation of non-obvious thinkers and marketers.
