Every holiday there is always a must have toy, and in December 2016 it was clearly Hatchimals.

An intriguing interview in PRWeek offered an inside look at the marketing strategy that helped drive the toy's success, including its unique idea of secretly launching on a single day and driving interest through the passion of superfans and their wildly popular unboxing videos on YouTube.

The single day launch is the part I keep thinking about. Choosing to appear everywhere at once, instead of building slowly toward the holidays, turned the simple question of whether you could find one into the story itself.
