Disney's Holiday Fireworks Will Have Drones

Intel drones lighting up the night sky over a Disney park

Earlier this year I wrote about Intel's experiments with drone fireworks. Now the news has emerged that their efforts will be seen in Disney parks by millions of people.

I love the use of technology in this case to prolong the delight of fireworks, to make them better able to tell a story and to just add more excitement to an already exciting thing.

A fireworks show is a sequence of beautiful moments that vanish the instant they happen. Drones can hold a shape in the sky, come back to it, and turn all those separate moments into something closer to a narrative. That is a small change with a big effect on what the experience can mean.
