The Underappreciated Beauty of Making Useless Things
Simone Giertz is an inventor who describes herself as a “maker of shitty robots.”
Just a week before her TED talk went live online, she shared an emotional video with her YouTube fans on her recent diagnosis of a brain tumor. In just a few weeks, her TED Talk has been viewed more than 1 million times and her brain tumor video is nearing 3 million views.
The theme of both is underlying hope. In one, she hopes for a good result from her surgery and to be back at making videos again. In the other, she hopes to inspire each of us to spend more time trying to fail, because those failures give us confidence. Both videos are worth watching.

A Short Backstory Of This Blog
This is a blog about non-obvious ideas. Originally launched on the Typepad platform in 2005 as the Influential Marketing blog, the stories at first focused mainly on digital marketing while Rohit worked at Ogilvy Advertising. In 2015 Rohit officially rebranded to the Non-Obvious Insights Blog and published his WSJ bestseller Non-Obvious. For the past twenty one years, this blog has coined new terms, introduced future marketing practices and inspired the next generation of non-obvious thinkers and marketers.
